THE NULLIFIRES OF ISLAM

The Muslim needs to know the truth and guidance in order that he may love it and try some traverse upon it, he is also required to know falsehood and misguidance in order that he may hate it and avoid it.

ALLAH has clarified within the QURAN the path of the believers as well as the path of the criminals, the actions of the believers and the actions of the criminals and the qualities as well as the end result.
ALLAH also clarified that which he has prepared for the believers from abundant reward and that which he has prepared for the criminals from a painful punishment.

Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman:
The people used to ask the prophet Muhammad ï·º about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me.
Once I said, "O ALLAH's Messenger (ï·º)! We were in ignorance and in evil and ALLAH has bestowed upon us the present good; will there by any evil after this good?"
He said, "Yes."
I asked, "Will there be good after that evil?"
He said, "Yes, but it would be tained with Dakhan (i.e. Little evil)."
I asked, "What will its Dakhan be?"
He said, "There will be some people who will lead (people) according to principles other than my tradition. You will see their actions and disapprove of them."
I said, "Will there by any evil after that good?"
He said, "Yes, there will be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell, and whoever accepts their invitation to it will be thrown in it (by them)."
I said, "O ALLAH's Messenger (ï·º)! Describe those people to us."
He said, "They will belong to us and speak our language"
I asked, "What do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life?"
He said, "Adhere to the group of Muslims and their Chief."
I asked, "If there is neither a group (of Muslims) nor a chief (what shall I do)?"
He said, "Keep away from all those different sects, even if you had to bite (i.e. eat) the root of a tree, till you meet ALLAH while you are still in that state."
[Sahih Bukhari:3606]

Shirk, disbelief, falsehood and misguidance are the nullifires of Islam. This is a study of a valuable treatise by the Imaam, the rectifier, the reviver, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab (may ALLAH have mercy upon him and forgive him) entitled:
"THE NULLIFIRES OF AL ISLAM" was written as approximately two pages. However, it contains the most important of that which is befitting to be known in this field. Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab mentioned ten nullifiers. However, mentioning them was not by way of restriction. Rather, he mentioned the mothers of the nullifiers and that which the other unmentioned nullifiers extend from. The ten nullifires are as follows:

1. The association of partners in the worship of Allah

Association of partners means, that one sets up a partner along with ALLAH in worship (Ibadah). Supplications (dua), trust in faith, bowing, prostrating, seeking aid, slaughtering animals, vows, and other than that from the acts of worship. Worship is the right of ALLAH. It is not permissible to associate anything with ALLAH in worship. It is the greatest sin and the worst crime.

"Indeed, ALLAH does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with ALLAH has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin."
[Surah An-Nisa 4:48]

ALLAH clearly indicated the danger of Shirk that he does not forgive a slave if he meets Him while he is associating partners with Him, but He forgives other sins. But he will not forgive the one who dies upon it. The Mushrik will have no chance on the Day of Judgement for the forgiveness of ALLAH. He will be the fuel of hellfire.

Narrated Hazrat Ali Ø±Ø¶ÙŠ الله عنه,
The prophet Muhammad ï·º said,
ALLAH cursed him who cursed his father; ALLAH cursed him who sacrificed for anyone besides ALLAH; and ALLAH cursed him who accommodates an innovator (in religion) ; and ALLAH cursed him who changed the minarets (the boundary lines) of the land."
[Sahih Muslim: 5124]

If we commit Shirk, all his good deeds would have been rendered vain. Can we imagine the stature, the quality and the sincerity of the deeds of the Prophet ï·º? However, even deeds of such high stature will be rendered ineffective if the sin of Shirk is done! If a person does Shirk even if he has tomes of good deeds they will all be rendered ineffective.

2. Sets up intermediaries between himself and Allah

The person who sets up intermediaries between himself and ALLAH, supplicating (dua) to them, beseeching them for intercession, and relying upon them, has disbelieved by way of unanimous agreement.

"We worship them only that they may bring us near to ALLAH.".
[Surah Az-Zumar 39:3]

The polytheists of the world over generally say the same: We do not worship other beings regarding them as our creators. ALLAH is too high for us to have access to Him, that's why we make these saintly beings a means to convey our prayers and our petitions to ALLAH.

"Every Prophet has a supplication guaranteed to be answered. Each Prophet hastened to make his supplication (during his lifetime). However, I have delayed my supplication to be for intercession on behalf of my Ummah on the Day of Standing, and it will be attained, in sha ALLAH, for everyone who dies from my Ummah not associating anything with ALLAH."
[Sahih Muslim:199]

They worship, beside ALLAH, those who can neither harm nor profit them, saying; "These are our intercessors with ALLAH.' Tell them (O Muhammad): 'Do you inform ALLAH of something regarding whose existence in the heavens or on the earth He has no knowledge? Holy is He and He is exalted far above what they associate with Him in His divinity."
[Surah Yunus 10:18]

No such intercessors exist as can plead their cases with ALLAH. if something is not in the knowledge of ALLAH, it means that it doesn't exist at all. Everything that exists anywhere in the heavens and the earth is in His knowledge.

Narrated Ibn abbas رضي الله عنه,
"The names (of the idols) formerly belonged to some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to (prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names. The people did so, but the idols were not worshiped till those people (who initiated them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshiping them."
[Sahih Bukhari:4920]

Say: "All intercession lies with ALLAH. His is the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And to Him will all of you be sent back."
[Surah Az-Zumar 39:44]

No one has the power to stand before ALLAH as an intercessor and not to speak of getting his intercession granted. He may allow intercession for whomever He may please and forbid for whomever He may please.

Narrated Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه,
I said: "O Messenger of ALLAH ï·º, who will be the most fortunate of the people by way of your intercession on the Day of Standing?"
He said: "He who says: Laa Ilaha Illa-ALLAH (None has the right to be worshiped except ALLAH), sincerely from his heart."
[Sahih Bukhari: 99]

3. Do not consider the polytheists as infidels, make a provision for their infidelity or justify their religion

He who does not consider the polytheists to be disbelievers or doubts their disbelief, or considers their path to be correct has disbelieved.

They disbelieved who say: ALLAH is one of three (in a Trinity): for there is no god except one God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous chastisement will befall the disbelievers among them."
[Surah Mae'dah 5:73]

They disbelieved those who says, ALLAH is one of three (in a Trinity), It refers to the opinion of the Jews "Uzayr is the son of God" and the opinion of the Christians "the Messiah is the son of God"; thus making God one among three.

These are three affairs which cause disbelief and are nullifiers in the Islam:

A. Not considering the polytheists to be disbelievers- The person doesn't consider to be a disbeliever he whom ALLAH and His Messenger ï·º have declared to be a disbeliever.

B. Doubting their disbelief- It is obligatory upon the Muslim to not allow any hesitation or doubt to creep into his heart regarding the disbelief of the one whom ALLAH and His Messenger ï·º have declared to be a disbeliever.

C. Considering their way to be correct- Who considers the way of the disbelievers to be correct or anything from their creed of disbelief that expels one from the religion that has disbelieved.

4. He who believes that guidance other than the Prophet's ï·º is more complete than his guidance

He who believes that guidance other than the Prophet's ï·º is more complete than his guidance or that a judgement other than his is superior to his judgement, such as he who prefers the judgement of the Taivaagheet over his judgement is a disbeliever.

"O ALLAH, we take refuge with You from disbelief and poverty, and we take refuge with You from the punishment of the grave."
[Abu Dawood: 5090]

"O ALLAH, we take refuge with you from associating partners with You, knowingly and we seek Your forgiveness for that which we are unaware of."
[Sahih Bukhari: 716]

We should be sincere advisors to ourselves by knowing them in order that we may beware of them and that we may warn others from them.

The best book is the QURAN and the best life is the Prophet's life. We should follow his saying.

"As to what follows: Indeed the most truthful speech is the speech of ALLAH, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad."
[Sahih Muslim: 867]

"And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad) an Inspiration of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path."
[Soorah Ash-Shura 42:52]

"The Path of ALLAH, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. Verily, all the matters at the end go to ALLAH (for decision)."
[Soorah Ash-Shura 42:53]

Prophet's guidance is the best guidance, the most complete and holistic and the strongest. He who believes that other than his guidance is more complete than his guidance than he is a disbeliever in ALLAH who has exited the religion.

5. Those who keep away from the things that The Prophet Muhammad ï·º brought from Allah Ta'ala

He who hates anything which the Messenger brought with him, even if he acts upon it, has disbelieved would be humiliated and destroyed.

"That [destruction] is because they hate what ALLAH has sent down: therefore ALLAH has nullified their deeds."
[Surah Muhammad 47:9]

Disbelievers disliked The Prophet Muhammad's ï·º merits, as a consequence of which they deviated from the Right Path and their deeds were rendered vain, since doing righteous good deeds are based on belief in Divine Unity, sincerity in worshipping ALLAH, belief in Divine Guidance, and loving the Prophet ï·º and his pure offspring. They dislike the Revelation of the QURAN because of this they would be defeated and humiliated and their deeds would be rendered fruitless.

6. Mocking anything from the religion of Allah

He who mocks anything from the religion of ALLAH or His reward or His punishment has disbelieved then he is a disbeliever.

Say: "Was it at ALLAH, and His Ayat and His Messenger) that you were mocking?
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed."
[At-Tawbah 9:65-66]

The hypocrites who used to make fun of the Prophet ï·º and the true Muslims in their secret meetings when they were making preparations for the expedition to Tabuk. In this way, they used to discourage those Muslims who sincerely and honestly intended to go forth for Jihad. In this way, they used to discourage those Muslims who sincerely and honestly intended to go forth for Jihad. We learn many things in this connection from the traditions.

For instance, in one of their meetings, when the hypocrites were having a gossip, one of them remarked, "I say: Do you think that the Romans are no better than the Arabs? You will see that in the near future these brave men will be bound with ropes."
Another responded to this, "What fun it would be if after this each one of them is lashed with a hundred stripes."
Still, another, ridiculing the preparations by the Prophet (peace be upon him) for the expedition, remarked, "Look at this man and his preparations. He intends to go forth to conquer the forts in Syria and the Roman Empire."
[English translation of Tafheem-ul-QURAN]

Mocking the religion whether that be beliefs, acts of worship, or etiquette, then by way of this mockery he has disbelieved or the reward or punishment is from the characteristics of the hypocrites and from the affairs which expel the person from the religion of Islam. Similarly, he is mocking the religion of ALLAH or a part of it, or he is mocking the reward of ALLAH which He has prepared for His believing slaves, then he has disbelieved.

7. Magic

He who does it or is pleased with it has disbelieved. The magicians gain mastery over the people by disturbing affairs between spouses, business partners, and associates, as it relates to trade and seeking profit, earnings and monetary affairs.

"But neither of these two taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)."
"And from them people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by ALLAH's Leave."
[Surah Al-Baqarah 2:102]

They follow what the shaytans recited in the reign of Hazrat Sulayman عَÙ„َÙŠْÙ‡ِ ٱلسَّÙ„َامُ. He did not disbelieve, but the shaytans did, teaching people sorcery and what had been sent down to Harut and Marut, the two angels in Babylon, who taught no one without first saying to him, 'We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us).' People learned from them how to separate a man and his wife, what will harm them and will not benefit them, but they cannot harm anyone by it, except with ALLAH's permission.

Magic is of numerous types and its two types are As-Sarf and Al-Atf.

As-Sarf: It means to turn the person away from that which he loves and inclines towards. Like Husband-Wife, brother-brother, father-son, friends etc. This evil is happening a lot. Approximately every third house is involved in magic. He who practices magic is a disbeliever and he who made to do is also a disbeliever. Learning the magic is also disbelief. If magic happens, it is also kufr to cure it through magic.

Al-'Atf: This type of magic is to connect the person, or make him inclined towards that which he does not love and has no desire for. Through this magic people are doing dangerous crimes. Magic is disbelief with all the forms. Who spells the magic and got agrees on that is a disbeliever.

8. Giving victory to the polytheists and aiding them against the Muslims

Giving victory to the polytheists and aiding them against the Muslims is also disbelief. Having affection for them in order to attain the Dunyaa and not for the sake of making the religion of the disbelievers superior nor out of the desire for their religion or love to see their religion be superior to the religion of Islam.

"And if any amongst you has allegiance with them, then surely he is one of them. Verily, ALLAH guides not those people who are wrongdoers."
[Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:51]

In these verses ALLAH says, do not take the stranger as a friend, and do not approve of the enemy for your Muslim brothers, When you take a friend and take a companion, approve of him for the sake of ALLAH. Take the friend in ALLAH's work and approve of the companion in the religion of Islam. When you seek the realities of faith, seek them from friendship with ALLAH's friends and enmity with the enemies of the religion.

"It is He Who has sent His Messenger (ï·º) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), to make it superior over all religions."
[Surah At-Taiobah 9:33]

He who loves that the religion of the disbelievers should be superior over the religion of Islam then is not from believers.

"O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists, etc.) as friends, showing affection towards them."
[Surah Al-Mumtahinah 60:1]

Do not take your enemy as your friend. ALLAH mentioned them as an enemy because he knows what is hidden in their heart. We should not support them against our Muslim brother and Islam.

9. He who believes that some people are allowed to depart from the legislation of Prophet Muhammad (ï·º)

He who believes that some people are allowed to depart from the legislation of Prophet Muhammad ï·º just as Al-Khijra عَÙ„َÙŠْÙ‡ِ ٱلسَّÙ„َامُ departed from the legislation of Musa عَÙ„َÙŠْÙ‡ِ ٱلسَّÙ„َامُ then he is a disbeliever.

"And whoever seeks a way other than this way of a submission (Islam), will find that it will not be accepted from him and in the Life to come he will be among the losers."
[Surah Al-Imran 3:85]

Whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted by him and in the Hereafter, he shall be among the losers, because he will end up in the Fire, made everlasting for him.

"And We have sent you (O Muhammad) not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, Jinn and all that exists)."
[Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107]

The appointment of the Prophet Muhammad ï·º is indeed a blessing and mercy of ALLAH to the whole world. The Prophet Muhammad ï·º aroused the neglectful world from its heedlessness and gave it the knowledge of the criterion between truth and falsehood, and warned it very clear of both the ways of salvation and ruin.

Say (O Muhammad "O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of ALLAH."
[Surah Al-A'raf 7:158]

Who he has faith in ALLAH and in His Messenger but believes that some people are allowed to depart from the legislation of the Prophet Muhammad ï·º is a disbeliever Who he believes in ALLAH and in His Messenger and His words, and follow him so that he may be guided aright.

10. Complete deviation from the religion of Islam

Turning away from the religion of ALLAH, not learning it and not acting upon it is also disbelief. When the foundation with which one enters into Islam is nonexistent within the person, and he turns away completely, not learning it or acting upon it.

"And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Ayat of his Lord, then he turns away therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the criminals.
[Surah As-Sajdah 32:22]

The man who has been warned in so many ways, for whose admonition countless different signs have been provided, and who has been blessed with the eyes to see and the ears to hear and the mind to think, and yet he closes his eyes to all these signs, and closes his ears to the admonitions of his well-wishers, and uses his mind for inventing stupid and blind philosophies only can be a wretched and wicked person. This is the one who turns away completely from the religion of ALLAH and this is from the types of disbelief. This is called Kufr Al-I'raad.

Conclusion

ALLAH has clarified within the QURAN the path of the believers as well as the path of the criminals, the actions of the believers and the actions of the criminals and the qualities as well as the end result.
ALLAH also clarified that which he has prepared for the believers from abundant reward and that which he has prepared for the criminals from a painful punishment.

The one who is joking, serious, or scared, except the one who is compelled. All of them are from the most dangerous and the most frequently fallen into. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to avoid these evils and to be afraid of them. We seek refuge with ALLAH from that which brings about His anger and His painful punishment.

"Except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith."
[Surah An-Nahl 16:106]

The one who turns away by leaving off some obligations from that which does not reach the level of disbelief, or he leaves off the recommended actions then this does not enter into this affair Whoever disbelieved in ALLAH after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith but such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is wrath from ALLAH, and theirs will be a great torment.

"That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. And ALLAH guides not the people who disbelieve."
[Surah An-Nahl 16:107]

Disbelievers love the life of this world more than the Hereafter, and ALLAH does not guide those who are ungrateful to ALLAH for His favours.

"And keep me and my sons away from worshiping idols. O my Lord! They have indeed led astray many among mankind."
[Surah Ibrahim 14:35-36]

Prophet Ibrahim عَÙ„َÙŠْÙ‡ِ ٱلسَّÙ„َامُ destroyed the idols with his own hand was afraid of it, idols have been the means of turning many people away from ALLAH’s way into the ways of deviation.
